The Linnean Society of London is the world’s oldest learned society devoted to biology and natural history, and the birthplace of the theory of evolution. As you explore the Society’s magnificent premises at Burlington House in the heart of Mayfair, you will learn about the history of this remarkable institution and the countless treasures it holds.

Alternatively, you can book tickets for our scheduled public Treasures Tour dates if you prefer. 

The tour includes a visit to the Society’s bombproof collections store, where the priceless book, archive and biological specimen collections of the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus are housed in environmentally-controlled conditions beneath the teeming shoppers of Piccadilly.

The minimum number of attendees on a private tour is 6 people. For concession tickets, groups larger than 12, or bespoke special interest tours, please contact us to discuss your requirements. 

Our small group tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and is led by our expert staff. It can be booked between Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm, subject to availability (excluding Bank Holidays and the period between Christmas and New Year). Private Tour Gift cards can only be redeemed within one year of purchase.

Due to the sensitive nature of our collections, we can only offer collections tours to attendees aged 16 and over. The collection store was built to house the collections so has limited access, please check in advance regarding any person’s requirements.
