Shipping policy

The Linnean Society is based in London, UK. You can visit us Tuesday to Friday 10.00 to 17.00. Click here to find out What’s On. You can shop with us in person or select to collect your web order from us during your visit.

We ship internationally.

Web orders will be picked and packed by us within 5 working days (Monday to Friday, excluding UK bank holidays). Domestic shipping is usually a 2-3 working day service, to Western Europe 3-5 working days and the rest of the world 5-7 working days. This is a summary of Royal Mail advertised service times; once despatched the Linnean Society has no control over service delivery.

Exact cost of shipping will be calculated at checkout. As a general guideline, UK customers can expect to pay Postage & Packing from £3.49 for a ‘Large Letter’ and from £7.99 for a ‘Small Parcel’. 

As standard, we use Royal Mail Tracked 48 as our default service for shipping within the UK, and Royal Mail International Tracked as our default service for shipping internationally. Signatures are not normally required. From time to time, we may make substitutions based upon the availability of services and / or our desire for your order to reach you in a timely and efficient manner.

All orders are despatched from the UK and any export will be given due care and attention to ensure it can pass through customs clearance quickly and efficiently. Please ensure you anticipate the necessary import costs and respond to demands for payment in a time-sensitive manner to avoid your goods being returned to sender and an associated restocking fee being deducted from any eligible refund. Payment of taxes, duties, fees and charges is the responsibility of the customer.

If you would like to request that your order be shipped by an alternative or specific service, please contact us with your request prior to placing your order. Where possible we will quote/invoice/confirm special shipping requests that do not interfere with lawful and regulatory requirements.

If you select the option to ‘Collect’ from us at our address then the goods will be classed as delivered immediately and you can visit us during our normal opening hours to collect. If you subsequently decide that you cannot avail of this free-of-charge service then you can email us to request an invoice for Postage and Packing. Upon payment / order confirmation for P&P then our standard shipping policy will apply.
